Libertarian Party of Idaho Endorses Medical Marijuana Act 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   March 3, 2021

Boise, ID - The Libertarian Party of Idaho has formally endorsed the Medical Marijuana Act 2022, organized by KindIdaho, a non-partisan citizens coalition. This measure would establish a state constitutional right for patients to use and access medical marijuana in Idaho.

The Libertarian Party believes, Laws should be limited in their application to violations of the rights of others through force or fraud, or to deliberate actions that place others involuntarily at significant risk of harm. Therefore, we favor the repeal of all laws creating “crimes” without victims, such as, the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes.

The endorsement comes at a critical time, as KindIdaho works to expand its coalition and signature gathering efforts across the state. To qualify for the ballot, the committee must gather approximately 65,000 valid voter signatures — 6% of the number of registered voters at the time the petition signatures are submitted — by April 2022.

The Libertarian Party of Idaho hopes that our endorsement will encourage registered Libertarians and unaffiliated voters to sign the petition and to help educate all voters in Idaho on the benefits of decriminalizing cannabis.

“While we know some Libertarians would prefer to see cannabis legalized for all adults, KindIdaho has brought forward a path towards progress.” Stated the Chair, Jennifer Imhoff. “Marijuana is an extremely effective alternative to the pharmaceuticals market and this ballot initiative offers a way for grandmas and veterans to prove marijuana use is not a crime”.
